Information on Medieval Weapons in Books

Can Medieval Weapons Books Tell Me If A Sword Is Authentic In Design?

Before you begin shopping around for a medieval sword or weapon, it is best to learn all about them from medieval weapons books.

Not only can you learn about different sword styles from medieval books, but you can also learn what they were made out of back in the Middle Ages and what the most common metals are now.  You can also learn about the differences between spring steel and stainless steel and why one is better than the other.  Most medieval weapons books can tell you the back story behind a particular sword.  For example, most people only know part of the whole story of Excalibur and how Arthur became king.  You can find a wealth of information in books.

Some medieval weapons books will even show you the evolution of a particular design of hilt.  For example, you can see the progression towards the rapier swept hilt style from a simpler, cleaner style of barbarian sword.  You will also see a transition from copper and bronze blades to stronger and more durable steel blades.  Some books will teach you the entire forging process from start to finish so you can truly appreciate the time and effort that went into making a single sword for combat.

Don't forget about the larger medieval weapons books.  You can find tons of fascinating information on ancient medieval siege weapons and war machines.  Most history books tend to leave out all of the juicy details when it comes to describing exactly what these massive weapons could and did do to castle ramparts.  All in all you can find amazing details and historical facts about a particular sword or medieval weapon in books about the Middle Ages and its weaponry.
