The dominant helmet during much of
the 15th century, the Armet gradually evolved into the first
truly international style of medieval helmet, the close helmet.
Armets were built of a snug-fitting
bowl that came to just above the ears, fitted with cheek plates
that attached by hinges to this bowl.
At an early date, close helmets
developed a feature that distinguished them from Sallets. A
bevor was shaped to the chin and joined with a front neck guard
that overlapped on the skull, to form a Gorget.
Then an additional layer of steel was added across the brow
along with a visor to fill in around the nose and eyes to make
an exceptionally functional closed helmet.
This helmet is an authentic reproduction of the classic European
Armet design.
It is made of hand-forged 18 gauge, low carbon, A-36 mild
steel. This metallurgical composition provides
excellent resilience, durability and will polish to high sheen.
The accents on the helm are real C-854 brass, not
electro-plated. They also polish to a mirror finish.
The fully-articulated hinged visor allows for solid protection
and a comfortable fit.
This item is shipped to you pre-oiled for protection.
