Medieval Knight Close Helmet with Chain Mail Aventail

These helms were built of a snug-fitting bowl that came to just above the ears, fitted with cheek plates that attached by hinges to this bowl.

Then an additional layer of steel was added across the brow along with a visor to fill in around the nose and eyes to make an exceptionally functional closed helmet.  This helmet comes with an attached chain mail aventail.

This helmet is an authentic reproduction of the classic close helm design.

It is made of hand-forged 16 gauge, low carbon, A-36 mild steel. It is important to note that the lower the gauge, the thicker the steel. For example: 16 gauge is thicker than 18 gauge. This metallurgical composition provides excellent resilience, durability and will polish to high sheen.

The fully-articulated hinged visor allows for solid protection and a comfortable fit.

This medieval helmet conforms to the Society for Creative Anachronism's standards for thickness. This item is shipped to you pre-oiled for protection.
